Some stories linger with you, echoing the essence of why you embark on a path in the first place. For me, one of my favorites is woven into the very foundation of a recent Kauai home—a testament to perseverance and to the power of truly listening.

During the construction phase, the general contractor casually mentioned that his clients, now my clients, had cycled through seven architects before arriving at my door. Seven talented professionals, each unable to capture the nuanced vision this couple held for their perfect home. By the time they came to me, hope was a flicker, and their nerves understandably frayed, yet they were still willing to give their dream one final chance.

From our first meeting, I sensed both their weariness and their quiet determination. What the previous architects had missed, I strove to find—the subtle dreams and details that would transform a house into their sacred space. Through patient conversations and careful listening, together we uncovered those nuances. Now, as their dream rises, piece by piece, and their excitement grows with every passing day, I am reminded of the profound purpose behind my work.

This is the joy that fuels me: seeing others’ visions realized, restoring their hope, and knowing that my creative passion has tangibly changed someone’s life. In turn, their joy becomes my own—deep, unexpected, and humbling. It is not lost on me that where seven others could not, I was able to design a home that captures not just architecture, but heart and soul.

Each project is a journey, and each client a new story. This one, in particular, is why I do what I do with unwavering dedication and gratitude.
